Before you drive
Four things to know
Your papers
Residents: an Omani licence and an Omani ID or resident card. Visitors: your passport and an international driving licence.
Kilometres
200 km a day for up to 6 days, 172 a day from 7 days and 161 a day from 4 weeks. A return more than 2 hours late counts as one more day.
Deposit
None with Omani papers. Otherwise 50 OMR, or 250 OMR for luxury cars, held 30 days for fines and returned in full if there is nothing to settle.
Long trips
Salalah, Duqm and Musandam are quoted by phone. Not every car may go: smaller engines stay local.
